At the Singer Museum in the city of Laren a new exhibition has opened with the title;”Comics & Art”. The Singer Laren museum provides an opportunity with this exhibition to explore similarities as well as differences between comics and art. A self portrait is often referred to as a serious piece of art, whilst comic artists who portray their selves often take a humorous look at themselves. Art of many comic artists that marked the world of comics can be found at this exhibition, artists such as Jan kruis, peter Pontiac, Erik Kriek, Maaike Hartjes, Barbara Stok and Willy Vandersteen. You will be able to see their art next to famous artists such as Dick Ket, Pyke Koch, Rob Scholten, Philip Akkerman and Wouter van Riessen. Obviously some art of Don Lawrence can be found here as well. One of the rooms, where self portraits are being displayed, contains a self portrait of Don Lawrence that was created for the book;”Worlds of Don Lawrence”, while at the Jesus Room the cover which was used for the Storm tale “Maze of Death”, can be seen. A painting where Storm is crucified to a meteorite. Information in regard to this exhibition can be found att www.stripenkunst.nl and www.singerlaren.nl. 03/31/2008
